Do You Struggle to Read More Books but Spend Hours on the Phone Every Day?

You could try taking this approach

I like to keep things practical.

If you want to read more books but can’t seem to find the time, this approach could do wonders for you.

And don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you to lock your phone away or uninstall every social media app.

Often when we think about making time to read, we have a specific scenario in mind.

For me, I just imagine myself picking up a nicely bound paperback, curling up in a comfy chair, and reading in complete silence. Maybe I even have a nice cup of coffee by my side.

Heck, maybe the seat is next to a window and I get some lovely natural light on a Sunday afternoon. Not too bright and not too dim.

Or maybe, it’s the middle of a bitterly cold winter and I’m sitting in a beautifully crafted Italian leather armchair (you know the kind that only supports the lower half of your back) and I’m positioned in front of a majestic fireplace. Just close enough to feel the warmth wash over me but not close enough to burn.

If you’re anything like me and picture scenes like these, you need to snap out of it. People who don’t read regularly can often overromanticize the act of reading.

And that’s restrictive.

If you need a specific environment just to read, then the chances of you reading go down dramatically. Instead, we should be more adaptable and free ourselves from this unnecessary ceremony.

Yeah, okay. We can put our phones on mute or flight mode. Then set them down somewhere else where we can’t see them. We can do our absolute best to focus on our reading.

But really, our attention is still on our phones.

We think about the messages we’re missing.
What if someone is trying to call us?

Sure, that’s probably quite unhealthy but let’s tackle one habit at a time.
